Botanical name: Ferula galbaniflua

Extraction method: Steam distilled from root exudation.

Description: Galbanum resin is taken from a number of the Ferula species that grow naturally in the Middle East and Western Asia. The plant is a large perennial bush. The resin is distilled to produce Galbanum essential oil. Galbanum is one of the oldest known oils used in ancient civilizations for perfume, incense and in the embalming process.

Actions: Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, balsamic, carminative, cicatrisant, emmenogogue, expectorant, hypotensive, restorative, tonic.

Common uses: Used externally for wound healing, inflammation, abscesses, acne and boils. Used extensively in perfumes and in flavouring of foods.

Cautions: Non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitising.
